Volunteer Testimonies
"Working at the altar is a wonderful way to immediately reap what you sow. In the years we've helped with
altar ministry, the Holy Spirit has continued to amaze us with His divine connections. An example is a man
who recently came to Victory for the first time on a Sunday morning. At the end of the service, the visitor
responded to the altar call and a friend of ours ministered to him. These two men had never met or heard of
each other, but it turned out that each of them worked under the supervision of a couple that attends Victory
- one worked for the wife, the other for the husband. Out of thousands attending that service, God put those
two together. And in doing so, He reminded both men that His loving eye is on them and He cares about the
details of our lives."
Pat & Janet Kendall - Alter Ministry
"One of the themes for twenty[4]seven is 'impact' and that is exactly what happens when you get involved
as a volunteer at twenty[4]seven youth. Week after week, I am privileged to develop relationships, disciple
young women, and speak truth into the lives of many teens. As I have given out of myself, I have seen growth
not only in the lives of the kids but also in myself. Everyone wants to be a history-maker but few are
willing to pay the price. If you want to be a part of something bigger than yourself, twenty[4]seven is the
place to be."
Roya Roache - twenty[4]seven youth
"What the parking lot ministry has done for me: I have been a member of Victory for about 5 years, and I have
just felt like I was in a rut, not really doing anything that the Lord was wanting of me. That was until I heard
about the Parking Lot Ministry. It was kind of funny that not until I gave of myself and my time that I felt a
peace about my life and family. Just greeting the new visitors and seniors and seeing the smiles on their faces
makes it such a joy. I know that this is where our Lord has led me to be for the time being. I am just enjoying
the people that I spend my Sundays with. I just can't wait to see all of the new smiles and "Hi's" that I will
be saying and getting in return."
Bryan McClendon - Parking Lot Ministry
"Being a leader at twenty[4]seven has really opened my heart up to God's love. Seeing the needs of the teens
and letting Christ's love flow through me has changed the way I see ministry. I feel that I have become more
effective at reaching my generation through volunteering at twenty[4]seven."
John Morgan - twenty[4]seven youth
"Teaching on marriage each week keeps us focused on working on our own marriage covenant. You can't teach the
principles unless you're going to live them as well!"
Dr. Galen & Janet Nation - Leaders of "Marriage & Family 101" at 8:15am, rm 317
"Volunteering at twenty[4]seven literally changes lives. My life is changed right along with the lives of the
teenagers. Having the opportunity to be there for a teen and to listen to what is going on in their lives is
rewarding in so many ways. When a young person finds the truth of Jesus, they become a different person and
you can see a new life in them. It blesses me to see others, especially the youth, go after God wholeheartedly,
and I know that I helped make a difference. It seems to draw me closer to Christ each time."
Brittany Impson - twenty[4]seven youth
"I grew up attending a traditional Sunday School program and have many special memories of Sunday School. I enjoy
helping to introduce a new generation to the fellowship, discipleship, prayer-time, and teaching of Victory's Holy
Ghost anointed Sunday School. Many are discovering this to be a tradition worth embracing for their families. It
is deeply satisfying to be partly responsible for this discovery. The volunteers are a great group to associate with!"
Dr. Kevin Farmer - V12 Leader & Leader: "Creation Thinking, The Foundation for a
Christian Worldview" at 10:00am, rm 323
"Being involved in Sunday School brings you together; closer as a family. It provides a good base of support during
trying times and an excellent spiritual foundation for children. Our family has been blessed with better jobs three
times since we started attending Sunday School in 1999. God has rewarded our investment of time by bringing us from
almost poverty wages to solid middle class. While teaching a Sunday School Cell Group God has also inspired me to
write three books. One of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering in Sunday School is the good fellowship and
the chance to work with some great people. We feel that we have met some lifelong friends."

Chasers" at 10:00am, rm 214
How the usher ministry has transformed my life: I had known for about 10 months that the Lord was calling me to
help in the usher ministry and I finally stepped out in March of 2007. From the moment I obeyed the voice of the
Lord my sales volume for the company I work for has doubled. I have also become a part of a cell group, because
the usher ministry is a cell group, and the new friendships I have developed in and through the usher ministry have
been a huge blessing to my life. If God is calling you to be an usher please obey the voice of the Lord and He will
prove himself faithful as always. God is no respecter of persons, what He is doing for me He will do for you.
Mark Hulse - Usher Ministry
I have been volunteering in the Nursery for 13 years. I love the children: working with them and playing with them,
ministering to them and loving on them. When I first started working in the nursery, I felt I was not worthy to work
with the children, but I jumped in head first and did whatever they needed me to do--whatever they asked of me I was
willing and able to do. Thirteen years ago we started our own business. God has blessed our business beyond what
we could ask or think. We also started tithing 13 years ago. We used to live in a one bedroom apartment with 4
people, me, my husband and 2 children. My oldest daughter slept on the floor for 3 years until we were blessed with
a nice home--we give God all the glory! We know we could not have made it without God all the way. Or without giving
time in the nursery and planting seeds of love and care for the children plus staying humble--they keep me humble! The
people I work with are wonderful and loving toward one another. We pray for one another like family. They
have spoken good things into me. If God is calling you to work with children in the Nursery, please obey. God will
bless you beyond what you could ever ask or think. Children need your time! Just like Jesus!
Donna Merritt – Nursery/Preschool Ministry
We had a son that was living in the world with drugs, alcohol, jail, etc. We kept standing, believing, and serving
for YEARS and believing that our continuing to serve God in the usher ministry, which is what God had called us to do,
would reap the harvest that we needed in our son's life. Belonging to our usher cell group gave us people who could stand
and believe with us! Our son is now COMPLETELY delivered from all the drugs, alcohol, and the lifestyle. He has
been happily married now for 4 years and both he and his wife are serving in the church. We believe that our being obedient
to what God had us do, brought the harvest that we had been praying for. Thank you Jesus!
Barbara Smith - Head Usher/Wednesday nights
Being a part of the usher ministry and an usher cell group has really enhanced my life! I have made WONDERFUL friends
who stand with me through good times as well as bad ones. I had been trying to sell my home for about 5 weeks,
but after asking my usher cell group to pray with me about it, it sold 1 ½ weeks later. People think Victory is
such a big church, but when you get plugged in somewhere you get to know so many people and it doesn't feel so big
anymore. Serving God and the church with good friends is a real blessing in my life!
Melany Walker - Wednesday night usher
Volunteering at Victory has been extremely rewarding. It also gives me a great sense of purpose; being part of reaching the harvest. I work the camera, help put New Member packets together and help in the kitchen at VBI on Thursdays. I’ve met such great people that I would never have gotten to know otherwise. I could go on and on about what a blessing it is to volunteer at Victory.
Marie Weidus - Television Ministry
Jan and I have been volunteering in International Cell Ministry. We help lead a
bible study in the International young adults and kids group. We want to give ourselves to these people because we know that we not only impact a local people, but we have impacted people around the world. We are thankful to our pastors, Pastor Henry and Tonia because they have been encouraging us to serve. As the result, we have seen people changed and transformed. The availability and obedience do not require money, but they require time, and we ask ourselves, “Is it worth it?” We have to say, “It is worth it to see people’s lives transformed.”
Peter Thavornrat - International Ministry
In May of 2006 I was sitting in service and heard the request for Volunteers to help with Word Explosion. I had felt the nudge to sign up to be a Greeter because Vollie Turner was my hero as an awesome example of God’s love to everyone that passed him. I started at Word Explosion to help just for that week but at the end of the 7 days I was so in awe of the love I felt from all the people that passed my way that I agreed to sign up for 6 months. Now more than a year later I still love being a Greeter. A very wise man told me that when you get involved and give out of yourself to others, God will bless you back in ways you can’t even imagine and he was so right. I would encourage any and all to get involved and see what wonders God does in your life.
He sure has done wonders in mine!
Becky Whisner - Greeters
I have worked at the Prayer Line and found it to be such a blessing! I work full-time and like many people with work and family responsibilities my schedule is very busy. There are times when the limited time I have to volunteer seems so small in the big scheme of things, but even when I spend just an hour or two at the Prayer Line a caller will thank me for praying and share how the ministry they received was just what they needed that day.
I also find myself being more sensitive to God’s voice and to the needs of others. I find myself praying more. I have also noticed God seems to really make my time and schedule flow so much better. I realize as I connected to our Pastor’s vision to reach out to others I came under the anointing that’s on this ministry. The blessing flows so I can walk in victory!
Teresa Noguera - Prayer Line
Galatians 6:7 reads, What a man sows, that shall he reap. Sowing into the Children’s Ministry of Victory Christian Center has reaped many rewards for our family. From the moment we came to Victory, we have benefited from the abundant resources for training our children in the Lord made available by the Children’s Ministry. We use everything from the weekly prayer lists, Kidz Club kits, scripture memory sheets, Bible reading plan and Bible Blast to teach our children at home. Victory has trained us how to train our children!
The spiritual growth that we have seen in our children in the last 2 years is immeasurable. Our children (ages 10, 8 and 6) have become bold in prayer and many times will lead us as a family in prayer. Their knowledge of the Word as well as a desire to witness has really developed. All three children received the Gift of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues at Victory. For two years our children have been leading children’s church in our home, as they re-enact what they have learned in the service, including worship, the offering, and the message.
The Lord impressed upon us to serve together in the Children’s Ministry. It has given us an opportunity to serve as a family. It has really increased their desire to serve as well as brought a special bonding to our family as we serve together. People may not realize that the children’s services are as anointed and life- changing as the adult services. As exciting as it is to minister to these young ones, nothing compares to the times they have ministered to us!
John & Virginia Hayward - Children’s Ministry
I began volunteering at Victory in the Men’s Ministry 6 years ago. For me volunteering has literally been a life changing experience. My wife and I started attending Victory 7 years ago after not really going to church for several years. I was addicted to pornography, my marriage was a mess, and I was so unsatisfied with life. I attended a discipleship class called Victory by Virtue for Men (which is now called Straight Talk for Men). It was there through the Word of God, teachings, accountability partners and the friendships that I developed that I was set free. At the end of the 12 week class Ty Barker challenged me to get involved. I had so many doubts about my ability to help others but Ty encouraged me and trained me on how to be a group leader. I started off being an assistant group leader and then became a group leader for several years. I know that I have maintained my freedom through the Word of God but the other key aspect has been the fact that I have given out of myself. It forced me, in the beginning especially, to stay in the Word of God because I knew that I was going to be helping other men. I have met so many great people over the years in the different areas of ministry that we have been involved in. I have had the opportunity to help out with 3D, Straight Talk, Encounter Weekend, ushering, greeting, and children’s church. Each area has helped me prepare for the next step God has for us. Psalm 92:13 says that he who is planted in the house of the Lord will flourish and that is what has exactly happened to us. We have now started our own ministry, which I know I would not have been able to do without volunteering because it has prepared me for what God wants us to do. If you want to reach your full potential in Christ then I encourage you to get involved.
Jeff Goforth - Men’s Ministry
I have been ministering at Parks Edge Nursing Home for seven years and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. I lead Bible study every first and third Monday and I do room visitation every Thursday evening. I get such pleasure from it that I feel I am more blessed by ministering than the ones to whom I minister. One incident that comes to mind is when I presented the Easter lesson on death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Betsy, 92 years old, who was blind, approached me after the lesson and asked if the story was true. I, of course, told her that it was and that if she’d been the only person on earth, Jesus would have given His life for her. I led her in the sinner’s prayer and afterward she began shouting “I’ll get to see Jesus! I’ll get to see Jesus!” Remember, she was blind, so she definitely got the concept that she’d have a new body. She died about six months later. I thank God for the opportunity of being able to be His voice and lead a soul to Him and snatch her soul from the devil’s grip.
LaVerne Caffey - Nursing Home Ministry
My daughter and I have been so blessed by being involved in the Single Parent Ministry! We have truly been trained and planted and we have grown so much. When you “give” you get FREE! It’s like being delivered from yourself—you forget about your problems and you receive “Beauty for ashes”, restoration, joy, peach, love, the list is endless! We are very grateful for Pastors Joshua and Maria Clinkscales and everyone at Victory. Get connected and get free!
Kelly Wright - Single Parent Ministry
I’ve been a member of Victory since 1998. Both Lisa, my precious wife, and I were unsettled about most, things until God placed me firmly in Victory. In 2003 we came to the understanding we were not in Tulsa for a job but were moved here to be equipped and serve. As God was dealing with my heart I began to overflow with compassion for others. I could not contain or stand by and watch those I wished to imitate. Just a day or so after I took that second step, a sweet brother asked if I would help volunteer in the Bookstore during Word Explosion 2004. I have not looked back since.
I now understand I must be in His Kingdom, a part of His movement. I submitted to the true authority over my life. In doing so God is meeting all our needs.

I have been a Sunday School Cell Leader for about 6 years now. I first started assisting a teacher in the 1st and 2nd Grade class my senior year of high school. I’ve always had a passion for kids, but this opportunity has definitely opened my heart and mind towards people, especially children. It is vital that they learn what the Word of God has for them in Bible lessons each week. As adults we can learn tremendously from children, who come from various walks of life and backgrounds – if we just listen to them, and give only a small amount of time!

I was at a point in my life where I needed direction from the Lord. Things that meant at lot to me were at stake; my marriage, my children, and my business. During prayer time God told me to join the choir. All I knew is that I wanted to serve God and to be in a place where I could receive what God had for me. During the past 5 years, I have been reconciled with my husband. As a team we are standing for our children and God has blessed my business by moving me from operating a daycare in my home to operating a center. I know now that worshiping is not singing, it's much deeper than that.

Cell ministry has provided many opportunities for spiritual enrichment, and growth in our lives. One of the five focus areas of cell or small groups is sharing the Word. We have loved this part of cell group because it allows for more personal discussion and sharing.
The cell group we lead focuses on marriage and a majority of the couples that come to our group have children. We understand that to form healthy relationships one must be willing to share of themselves and give time to fellowship with one another. Each couple has had a story to share about their lives and what God is doing. Many times these testimonies have brought encouragement to others in our group. Our cell group has definitely gone beyond a bi-weekly meeting and has created lasting friendships. We’re very thankful for cell groups as it has positively impacted our lives and others.
