PRAYING THE LORD’S PRAYER

In this lesson you will learn the benefits of early morning prayer and a prayer pattern for praying the Lord’s Prayer.

 

I.                    Start your day with prayer.

A.     Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

B.     Mark 1:35 – “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.”

 

II.                 Five benefits of early morning prayer.

A.     You will fellowship with the King of the universe, and you will be more aware of His presence throughout the day.

B.     Wisdom – You will live a more fruitful and productive life.

C.     Direction – You will receive guidance for your daily life (Proverbs 3:5-6).

D.     Strength – You will stay strong in your spiritual life (Isaiah 40:29-31).

E.      Communion – You will become like Jesus.

 

III.               Prayer pattern for The Lord’s Prayer – Matthew 6:9-13.

A.     Verse 9 – “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.” Begin your prayer with worship and exalting God.

1.      Jehovah Jireh – Provider (Philippians 4:19).  Jehovah Rapha – Healer (Isaiah 53:4-5, 1 Peter 2:24). Jehovah Shalom – Peace (1 Peter 5:8, Philippians 4:6-7). Jehovah Shammah – With us (Hebrews 13:5). Jehovah Tsidkenu – Righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jehovah Nissi – Banner of victory (1 Corinthians 15:57, 2 Corinthians 2:14). Jehovah Rohi – Shepherd (Psalm 23). Jehovah M’Kaddesh – Sanctifier (Jeremiah 29:11).

B.     Verse 10 – “Your kingdom come.  Your will be done” – pray for the government, those in authority, church and leaders, family, and your life.

C.     Verse 11 – “Give us this day our daily bread” – daily needs to be met.

D.     Verse 12 – “Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors” – confession of our sin and forgiving others (1 John 1:9).

E.      Verse 13 – “Do not lead us into temptation” – divine guidance (Psalm 37:23).

F.      Verse 13 – “Deliver us from the evil one” – put on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18).

G.     Verse 13 – “Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever” – thanksgiving and declaration of your faith.
