JESUS’ COMING FORETOLD

In this lesson the importance of knowing about Jesus’ coming foretold and five prophetic words spoken on the coming of Jesus.

I.                    Two reasons to learn about Jesus’ coming.

A.     The prophets foretold the coming of Jesus Christ, when He would come the first time. He is coming again and there are more prophecies about His second coming than His first.

B.     To strengthen your faith on the promises of God and give you more confidence to trust His Word.

1.      2 Timothy 3:16-17 – “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2.      2 Peter 1:16-21 – “For we did not follow cunningly devised fables (fiction) when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ … for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” – vv. 16,21.

II.                 Five prophetic words spoken on Jesus’ coming.

A.     Genesis 3:15 – “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

B.     Isaiah 7:14 – “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

C.     Isaiah 9:6-7 – “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” – v. 6.

D.     Micah 5:2 – “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah … yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel.”

E.      Numbers 24:17 – “A Star shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall rise out of Israel.”
