THE
In this lesson
you will learn of God’s unchanging guidelines for marriage, His view of
homosexuality and same sex marriage, and how you should respond to these
issues.
I.
Marriage,
as ordained by God, is between one man and one woman.
A.
Genesis
2:18-24 – “A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and they shall become one flesh” – v. 24.
B.
Ephesians
5:25-33 – “Husbands, love your wives just as Christ also loved the church and
gave Himself for her” – v. 25.
C.
Revelation
21:1-2 – John saw the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God prepared
as a bride adorned for her husband. Marriage starts in Genesis and ends in
Revelation.
II.
God’s
view of homosexuality.
A.
Leviticus
18:22, 20:13 – “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an
abomination” – v. 22. (Also see Romans
1:20-32.)
1.
Homosexuality
violates God’s laws.
2.
Same
sex marriage will affect the educational curriculum of children and teens in
public education.
B.
A
candidate who supports a gay agenda is also behind same sex marriage and
therefore is against God’s laws. (If a candidate endorses issues that are
against biblical marriage and you vote for them, you are supporting their
views.)
III.
How
to respond to these issues.
A.
We
are to love all people, pray for their salvation, and offer God’s mercy.
B.
Learn
the candidate’s positions.
C.
Accept
full responsibility to vote for those who honor God with a biblical moral
record.
D.
Pray
for whoever is placed in office – 1 Timothy 2:1-4.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
·
Do
you find out the views of candidates before voting for them?
·
Are
you voting based on a candidate’s biblical moral record?
·
Are
you praying for public officials who are presently in office?
BE A DOER OF THE WORD
Pray: Father,
in Jesus’ name, expose the hidden agendas of all
candidates. Thank You for guiding me in
voting for the candidates who will best represent You
on both the national and international scenes.
SCRIPTURE MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 14:34 – “Righteousness exalteth a nation….”
