RECEIVING GOD’S GIFT

In this lesson you will learn that the greatest gift ever given is Jesus Christ.  In Him is salvation and eternal life.  Jesus is the gift and in Him are multiple gifts.

I. The greatest gift given is Jesus Christ.

A. John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

B. John 1:14 – “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

C. John 1:12 – “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” 

1. It is vital how you respond to the gift. Your attitude toward the gift is to have an attitude of gratitude and gratefulness.

II. Some of the gifts that are in Jesus – Luke 2:1-14.

A. Verse 10 – the gift of fear-free living – freedom from fear.

B. Verse 10 – gift of great joy. (Isaiah 61:3)

C. Verse 11 – gift of salvation – no longer dominated by sin.

D. Verse 14 – gift of peace.  No more worry and anxiety.

E. Verse 14 – gift of goodwill toward men – God’s will for you is good.

III. Other gifts in Jesus.

A. Luke 19:10 –“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

B. 1 John 3:8 – “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”

C. Luke 4:18-19.

1. Preach gospel to the poor.

2. Heal the brokenhearted.

3. Proclaim liberty to the captives.

4. Recovery of sight to the blind.

5. Set at liberty those who are oppressed.

6. Proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord – restoration.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

· On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you score on having an attitude of gratitude for the gifts Jesus has provided for you?

· Which of these gifts have you received – gift of fear-free living, gift of great joy, gift of salvation, gift of peace, and gift of goodwill?

· Share how the works of the devil have been destroyed in your life.
